Taryn It Up
The Crazy/Beautiful star not only is crazy/beautiful but has more than a few talents up her sleeve.

It's easy to see why Taryn Manning attracts offbeat yet sympathetic roles, like the quirky/pretty neigh bor on Fox's Get Real and Kirsten Dunst's wild-child best friend in Crazy/Beautiful-she's just like that mysterious, new cool girl at school whom everyone is dying to get to know. But underneath the 22-year-old Tuscon native's hop, streetwise exterior lies a creative free spirit who is passionate about acting, music (she currently has Nikka Costa and Nelly Furtado on repeat in her make-up trailer), dance, and thrift-store shopping ("I'm a thrift-store junkie. I just have to go."). In her next role, in a road-trip movie about three friends who travel to L.A. to audition for a record company, Manning discovered that she shared more than one of her numerous talents with her co-stars, Britney Spear s and Zoe Saldana. During on-set downtime, the trio bonded: "The three of us just chat and gossip and han g. Me and Zoe are also both singers, so we find ourselves sitting around the set singing song after song." A musical career may yet compete with Manning's acting plans - she does vocals and plays guitar fo r Boomkat, the "trip-hop, pop, hip-hop" band she founded with her older brother, Kellin, and the pair ar e currently negotiating a record deal with MCA. But Manning is already looking forward to her role in the upcoming film version of White Oleander, starring Michelle Pfeiffer, whom she describes as "awe some, gorgerous, talented. I love Michelle Pfeiffer!" and sees no need to chose between the two. In fact, she sees her dual aspirations as complementary. "In acting, you get to lose youself in someone else and execute someone else's vision. With music, it's everything that I want to say to the world, the way I want to perform it.
